Matrice chair Marie-Antoinette by Tawla
Matrice is an armchair designed around an imprint. The imprint created by the interaction between two materials, one ductile and one flexible.
Matrice is a steel corset that compresses a velvet fleece, an organic, carnal form compressed by a wire mesh. The interaction of two antagonistic materials reminds us of the poetry of blown glass, a waist corsage, the imprint left on the body by wicker chairs. We sought to give the seat a comfortable feel, both visually and in practical terms. The iconic Chesterfield sofa was an obvious point of reference.
Matrice is a reinterpretation, a sensitive statement of its imprint: the upholstery is turned inside out here like a glove, revealing the grid structure. The latter forms a corset compressing the softness of the seat and backrest to give it an organic geometry. Matrice can be customized on request and used as an armchair or a multi-seat bench. Each piece is numbered.
Customizable (fabric and lacquer colors).
